Beginning of Construction Works at The Power Sub-Station of Jazan Economic City
Yesterday, actual construction works were commenced at the power substation project of Jazan Economic City on a 40.000 m2 land lot, as it is expected to finish within 24 months. The substation project cost amounted S.R. 311 million, and the substation's production capacity is estimated by 380 K.V. \ 132. will be linked to the high voltage line of (ALSHIGAIG - ALKADMI) of the Saudi Electricity Company.
The project aims to cover requirements of Jazan Economic City's first phase projects up to the time of concluding construction works in the main power plant of the Economic City. However, the substation will also supply the steel complex with electrical power to cover the first phase's power requirements, Added to some other utilities of the economic city.
Board Member of JEC - Engr. ZAIDAN YOUSEF said: "This power plant is a substation linked to the Saudi Electricity Company's station at ALSHIGAIG with a Transmutation line, and will operate up to the time of operating the main power plant of JEC's project, which will produce 2400 mega watts, despite our plans of completing the first phase of the main power plant by 2015 with production capacity of 1200 mega watts".
Engr. Zaidan also explained that JEC will seek transforming this substation into a linkage station between the main power plant of JEC and the Saudi Electricity Company by the time of operating the main power plant of JEC, which is in order to supply the Saudi Electricity Company with power produced from the power plant.
He also revealed that the project was divided into two bids; one of establishing the Transmutation line of 19 km. in order to link the substation with ALSHIGAIG – ALKADMI power line, and was acquired by the National Contractions Co., and the other bid was for the construction of the substation to generate 380 K.V.\132 of production capacity, and this was acquired by ALFANAR Co.
Jazan Economic City has started drawing future features of its existence with several huge economical projects, which are deemed first on the scale of the Arabic World. Within two years only from its foundation by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz; the city attracted more than S.R. 100 billion in investments. As it has already concluded deals with various international and local companies to execute such investments due to its genius masterplan and strategic location on the red sea, which will facilitate importing and exporting of goods with the rest of the world.
